Get to know Eugenio Chacarra, Eastside Golf’s first ambassador on the global professional tours. After winning the Hero Indian Open in March 2025, Eugenio’s contiued strong play earned him a spot in the PGA Championship at Quail Hollow – his first major appearance. As he prepared to tee it up on one of the game’s biggest stages, we asked him 10 quick questions to learn more about his mindset, routines and life in golf.
1. Do you have any superstitions on the course?
Absolutely. I always put my right shoe on first when I get to the course. That’s a routine. And I always use the same ball marker – it’s one my grandfather gave me when I was 12. It has his name on it, which is my name, and I’ve kept it ever since. I actually had a few replicas made after almost losing it once, but the original comes out on big days.
2. What are the strengths of your game? And your favorite club?
My strength is definitely ball striking – especially with the driver, 3-wood and long irons. I’m long and straight off the tee, which gives me a real edge. But my favorite club is my 60-degree wedge. I love messing around with short game shots – low, high, spinning, not spinning. It’s the most fun I have in practice. You know, Spanish hands.3. Do you stamp anything special on your wedges?
Yeah, I keep it personal. I stamp “EC” for Eugenio Chacarra and “22,” which is my number. My birthday is March 22, I turned pro in 2022, and I graduated that year too. It just became a special number to me.
4. What’s your go-to shot shape under pressure?
I like to move the ball both ways, but under pressure, I usually go with a little fade. It gives me more control and confidence. That’s something I developed in college – working to shape shots both directions – but the fade is definitely my safety play.
5. Favorite snack on the golf course?
In college, Zebra Cakes. If I made a bogey, I’d say, “Just give me a Zebra Cake.” That always cheered me up. Then grabbing some Chick-fil-A at the turn. Now that I'm a pro, I try to eat better. I’ll go with trail mix or a healthy granola bar that my nutritionist packed for me for the day. But if you ask what I really want, it’s probably a Zebra Cake.
6. What do you always have in the bag?
There are a few things I always carry in my bag. I have the ball marker my grandfather gave me that we talked about. I always start a round with 14 golf balls. I’ve also got swing aids; same few I’ve been using recently: one for my feet, one for my rotation and a putting template. And I’m always a guy with rain gear and an umbrella. My caddies hate it, but I’m like, what if it starts pouring on the seventh hole? It’s happened before. I’d rather be over-prepared than caught off guard.
7. Why 14 balls? That seems like a lot.
Yeah, if I’m actually using 14 balls in a round, I’m going home. But when I was a kid, I figured, “14 clubs, 14 balls” – it just stuck. I won my first tournament with 14 balls in the bag, so now I just kept it.
8. Your top five golf courses you’ve played?
Number one is Augusta National. That place is like Disneyland. Everything is perfect, everything is pristine and it’s just a blast to play. Pebble Beach is number two. I played it in college and I’ll never forget those three rounds – sunny the first day, then rainy and windy on Sunday. I got the full taste of Pebble. Then there’s Stonehill in Bangkok, where I won on the LIV Tour. We were the first to ever play the course after it opened and it was just an amazing layout. St. Andrews is the home of golf and everything to European players. Oh, and the town? Everyone lives and breathes golf. You feel it the moment you get there. Last, I have to include my home club, La Moraleja. I wouldn’t be where I am without it. They always let me play even when I didn’t have a tee time, and I spent so many hours there with my grandpa and my dad. It might not be the most famous, but it means the world to me.
9. Who's in your dream foursome?
Seve Ballesteros, my dad and my sister. We all grew up idolizing Seve. I met him when I was young, but he was already going through tough times with his health. If I could play with a 22-year-old Seve, that would be incredible. My dad’s done everything for us, and even though my mom doesn’t play, she’s been our biggest supporter too.
10. Final thought – what does it mean to represent Eastside Golf?
It was an easy decision for me. We share the same goals to grow, get better and make history in the game. Together, I believe we can have a long-lasting impact on the sport. I’ve been a fan of Eastside for a while. I love the brand and the clothing, and I’m honored to rep the Swingman on and off the course. I’m excited to show the world how good Eastside Golf is and the doors we can open together.
